Tunkhannock Continued

The first weekend we were in Tunkhannock, Bob and I took off for Hickory Run State Park which has a disc golf course.  I spotted while he played the very challenging course.  The park is beautiful, treed and interesting baskets.  We ate lunch in White Harbor on the Lackawanna River and headed back to Tunkhannock where on Sunday we enjoyed River Days in Riverside Park (unfortunately both the photos of these events disappeared as I was importing them).  The festival was celebrating all the volunteers who had collected 26 tons of flood debris along the Susquehanna River from the September 2011 flood.  There were two great bands (a jug band and a bluegrass band).  We sat under an awning and listened for three hours and visited the booths of various people (kayaks outfitted for fishing, conservancy easements, etc.).  The sunsets at the Cottage are lovely as these photos show.

Our job at the Cottage this year is insulating the roof.  This requires first emptying out this area of the dormer which was filled with old blankets, mouse poop, old photos, vintage car kits, etc.  Then Bob grinds off the nails that have come through the roof.  I attach plastic to the roof and the joists and then we carefully fit in three layers of 2" pink styrofoam.  It's fussy work as the rafters are not all straight or the same width apart.  When that is done I add another layer of vapor barrier.  Lastly we add one last sheet of styrofoam over everything.  When we finished the north part of this dormer, Bob built this wall.  The area will be a linen closet.  Right now it is filled with the Great Wall of China (multiple boxes which Julia and Martina will remember well from packing and labeling them, three deep and all the way to the ceiling) and all the stuff that was in the north dormer.

This shows the start of the insulating project in the South dormer (which we have now completed).  We finished the west dormer (which will be the linen closet, a bathroom and inconvenient storage) and are starting on the North dormer roof now.

Gale and Rosie Saxton (Sabrina's parents) joined us for two days and worked away.  Rosie cooked and Gale worked on the octagonal windows (over Gale's head in this photo) and helping Bob build this wall.

There was a funny triangular space at the back of the north side of the linen closet which was perfect for using all the little bits of styrofoam created when we cut the big pieces for the roof.  I cut and fit and filled up the space and then foamed it before covering it with plastic.  Bob and I do not want to burn the styrofoam left overs.

Also visiting were Ingeborg and Hans Borman (friends of my mother's from Dortmund, Germany).  Hans varnished the 11 interior doors while Ingeborg sanded the windows.  Ingeborg loved to swim.  I practiced my German with Ingeborg (and got grammar lessons).  She also baked wonderful deserts.  The weekend they were here we drove to World's End State Park to swim and Eagle's Mere for the crafts festival (which we also visited last year).

The Borman's treated us to a lovely dinner on Saturday night.

Bob and I diverted this week to insulating the entry hall (Bob) and finishing the varnishing of the doors (Wendy).  I have been having real problems accessing blogger, so I apologize for the long silence.
